IBS awareness

Today is IBS Awareness Day

IBS awareness day is a good opportunity to help others understand that Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a little more than not just having a stomach ache. We IBS sufferers (in my case a former sufferer) are generally very courageous people, regularly dealing with really difficult symptoms, that can stop us being ourselves and living life to the full.

I once read a post on a forum that I really related to. The person said she looked fine on paper. She had managed to get a good qualification and should have had some great opportunities. She could be bright, talented, hardworking and persevering when at her best. But she was only her best for around 40% of the time. The rest of the time she was dealing with IBS flare-ups and she felt like a pale copy of her real self.

Do you feel like that too?

That’s why it’s important to continue asking questions and looking for answers.

A tribute to IBS forumsIBS forums

I belong and regularly contribute to some fantastic IBS forums. For me, they are an opportunity to pass on what I have learned about IBS in the hope that it may move some else forward. The best forums are a great place to ask questions and find helpful advice from other IBS sufferers, and they help advance research.

If these forums didn’t exist, we would all be alone with our problems.

So I would like to say thank you to:

Healthunlocked: A friendly forum (UK)  that sends regular updates about new posts. A real warm IBS community

The huge IBS group forum (US) with lots of interesting subcategories and a covering a wide range of topics

A new forum: IBS patient,  set up and run by Jeffrey Roberts (himself an IBS sufferer and original creator of another successful IBS forum) to inform and support others. You might like to try it out and contribute some questions that you need answers to.

Do YOU have a favorite IBS forum I haven’t mentioned?
