IBS: Proud of all that you ARE

IBS: Proud of all that you are

With IBS we are often chronically aware of all our shortcomings, all that we are not. But IBS does not define all that you are. I want to pay tribute to all that you ARE, especially today, IBS Awareness Day. Because I think we need reminding of that from time to time.

You are brave

You are brave. Even if you don’t always feel that way, it is a quality you hold deep within you. You are brave every day, when you deal with your IBS symptoms or have a flare-up. Brave to face it.

You may not feel you have the choice anyway, but it takes courage to do so and keep going. You are brave facing a body that seems to have a mind of its own.

Brave living in the face of pain and uncertainty, because you never know how you are going to feel. You can never rely on feeling good. But you battle forward anyway. Even if you have to cancel more often than you would like.

IBS is not your fault – even though no-one tells you that.

You are smart

You are smart because you are looking for solutions. You are not resigned.

You know deep down that there is more to your IBS than medication and diets. You can feel it.

And you are right. You are a brave, smart person who has got stuck. And you are going to find the way out.

You are sensitive

You are a sensitive soul. You feel situations, people’s moods. And your body has become a little oversensitive over time.

I see being sensitive as a quality. I haven’t always seen things that way. But it is through my sensitivity and intuition that I can “feel” people and help them move forward better with their IBS.

Proud of all that you are

IBS proud of all that you are

As you look in the mirror over the weekend, while you’re brushing your teeth or combing your hair, remember that despite all this IBS stuff you are BRAVE, SENSITIVE and SMART.

And that is just part of the picture.

Allow yourself to be proud of yourself.

Proud of EVERYTHING you have accomplished, no matter how big or small that may be.

Proud of being a great friend, a loving son or daughter, Mum or Dad. And proud of the amazing talents you have too.

Proud of all that you are… No matter what.
